The Borrow Hub

The Doddridge Borrow Hub is a vibrant community space where you can borrow a wide array of items and tools, promoting sharing and sustainability.

From kitchen gadgets, electronics, and camping gear to DIY tools, this library offers an impressive collection of things for all kinds of projects, hobbies, and adventures. Whether you need a tent for a weekend getaway, a power drill for a quick home repair, or a projector for a movie night, the Borrow Hub makes it easier and more affordable to access the items you need without having to buy them. It’s a space where neighbours come together to share resources, reduce waste, and encourage a culture of reuse.

The collection is constantly evolving, and members can suggest new items or borrow what they need for a specific time, giving them access to a world of possibilities.

Visit our catalogue to see the full list of items available and reserve online.

The Borrow Hub is an exciting initiative, supported by a generous grant from the West Northamptonshire Council Household Support Fund. Managed by the Doddridge Centre Limited, a charity based in St James, Northampton, the Borrow Hub is a community resource designed to make everyday items and equipment accessible to all.

Whether you need tools for DIY, camping gear for your next adventure, kitchen gadgets, or even craft supplies, the Borrow Hub allows you to borrow a wide variety of items on a short-term basis. This new resource aims to promote sustainability, reduce waste, and provide local residents with affordable access to things they may only need occasionally.

Thanks to the support of the Household Support Fund, the Borrow Hub will help create a more connected and resourceful community, encouraging people to share, reuse, and support each other. The Borrow Hub is open to all, with the collection continually growing based on local needs and suggestions. Run by the Doddridge Centre, this project reflects the charity’s mission to improve lives and strengthen community ties in St James and beyond.

FAQ

How can I see what you have to loan?

You don’t need to be a member to view the items in our inventory

(Tip: you can sort by category if you click “Filter by”).

Items have a fee allocated to them dependent on what they are, and are listed on our Inventory. We try to keep it as affordable as possible, and the prices are based on saving you money as opposed to buying items.

This is mainly to keep items rotating as much as possible and so every member can enjoy a populated inventory. Get in touch if you need to add more items to your reservation.

Items must be returned on or before their due date. You will receive an automatic loan email reminder 2 days before your loan is due.

Unfortunately, we do have late fees in place. We do not like them, so please, don’t be late returning your items 🙂

We have 2 different extra fees:

Late Fees: £2 per item per day (even if we are not open).

Cleaning Fees: £5 per item. If an item is returned dirty and in a worse condition than it was received we will have to charge a cleaning fee.

The Borrow Hub is based purely on trust, we do not currently take deposits, (like many other LoT’s do) and we keep our prices as low as possible. We trust you will return the item on time and in the same or better condition than when you collected.

We don’t want to be draconian about it, but we also want our members and team to have a hassle-free experience. If you have any unexpected problem (it happens!) just drop us a message and we’ll find a way to work it out.

It’s super easy, we take online payments! To be able to reserve items, you must have a valid payment method. Once this is in place our team will charge the reservation to this payment method when we get the reservation ready.

They are stored in a secure GDPR-compliant site and your details are not sold, distributed, or passed on to any other entity. We do analyse anonymized data to provide you with the best borrowing experience possible, but that’s all. We will add you to our mailing list so you can keep up to date with offers and exciting news, but don’t worry we won’t spam you and only send mail every so often!

Yes! We are happy to take donations of good, clean, usable items. We are trying to avoid having duplications and some items may not be suitable for loaning -please contact us to confirm if your item is required. We can be contacted at info@doddridgecentre.org.uk

We understand that wear and tear will occur with items on loan. We just ask that you take good care of the borrowed item and return it to us as you found it so it can be used again and again.  Our ethos is to cut down on waste and consumerism, not to penalise people!
